BACKGROUND
Libyan Iron and Steel Company (LISCO) is one of the largest industrial companies in Libya. It covers an area of 1,200 hectares in the city of Misurata, located 210 kilometers east of Tripoli. The company’s designed production capacity is 1,700,000 tons of liquid steel annually, the plant consists of six (06) steam turbine generator units and a gas turbine with a total design capacity of 507 megawatts (MW).
The GE Frame V Gas turbine 18.5 MW at LISCO complex is running on the obsolete gas turbine and generator controller MK-II and generator protection, while it was proposed by OEM to upgrade to latest control system at then and same was supplied to them in the year 2024 where TCCS was contracted to the perform the installation and the upgrade for the gas turbine and generator control systems and complete Power-Gen rewiring.
SOLUTION
Having strong track record on operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation and commission of GE Speedtronic control system and Brush AVR system, TCCS took up the challenge to install and Pre-commission the newly supplied state of the art Speedtronic Mark VIe Control system, Generation protection G60, and EX2100e, while the scope also included minor inspection of Frame 5 Gas turbine load and accessory gear boxes and starting motor, turbine complete rewiring in addition to supply parts required to put the unit back on service. The project was successfully completed under the supervision of OEM channel partner in Libya.
