BACKGROUND
Libya holds large oil reserves, ranking 9th in the world and accounting for about 2.9% of the world’s total oil reserves. Despite civil war situation, OPEC member still managed to produce Crude Oil, averaging 1,340.000 Barrel/Day Jan 2002 to Jul 2021, with 235 observations and still one of the largest exporters of crude oil. This was possible only with regular supply of power to Oil fields, Oil & Gas utilities, refineries etc.
Libya’s power grid was unable to meet the growing demand for electricity leaving to regular blackouts, In 2017 Libya’s interim government, and the General Electricity Company of Libya (“GECOL”) decided to explore fast-track power solution.
SOLUTION
TCCS proposed fast-track solutions that met GECOL’s key requirements – environmentally sustainable and efficient turbine generation While the 2 units of P&W FT8 mobile gas turbine were made available by GECOL, TCCS took up the installation & commissioning on turkey basis synchronizing 60MW power to grid in less than 12 weeks despite several challenges.
